A Tribute to Our Veterans
On this Memorial Day, I’d like
to take a moment to observe what many consider to be America’s most solemn
national holiday.
Memorial Day is truly a time to
honor the service and commemorate the sacrifice of those who defend our freedom.
That’s something that communities across the nation remember today with heavy
hearts and minds.
In ceremonies across our
Commonwealth and country, we honor the memory and the sacrifice of men and women
in uniform – both throughout the storied history of our armed forces, and today.
We also offer our gratitude to their families and the many sacrifices they have
made while their loved ones have served our country.
It is a time to honor
self-sacrifice and to pay tribute to all those who have died in wars so that
others might live under better conditions and better governments. Memorial Day
is not about battles fought or hills taken. It is about ordinary people, making
extraordinary sacrifices, and the people and families that they left behind. And
above all, it is about the enormous debt we owe them.
Pennsylvania has many programs
and services intended to help our veterans and their families. If you are a
veteran, or know someone who is, you can find out more about these programs by

Patriotism. Duty. Freedom.
Love of country. Support for democracy. Millions of Americans fought and died
for these words and ideals. Let us remember their sacrifices not just today but
all year long.
Thank you and God Bless America
