Tomlinson to Chair Consumer Protection Panel;
Will Serve as Vice Chairman of Appropriations
Senator Robert "Tommy" Tomlinson (R-Bucks) has been appointed serve as
chairman of the Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure, a panel which
has state oversight over the monitoring and licensing of boards and commission
as well as regulatory review.
The committee also has oversight over a wide range of consumer-related
issues, from implementing the one call system to protecting residents against
home improvement fraud. The panel will hold public hearings on the nomination
of two upcoming Public Utility Commissioners.
"This committee has a wide range of responsibilities, but the number one goal
is to ensure that the needs and concerns of consumers are represented and
protected," Tomlinson said. "This committee serves as their advocate in state
government and ensures that consumers have a voice and recourse through the
legislative process."
Tomlinson will also serve as vice chairman on the Senate Appropriations
Committee. One of the most powerful of the standing committees, it reviews all
legislation for its fiscal impact and plays a crucial role in developing the
state budget.
"This year, we face difficult challenges, and tough choices, with a focus on
controlling spending and saving tax dollars," Tomlinson. "I look forward to
working with the House and Administration to develop a solid spending plan for
the Commonwealth."
Tomlinson will also serve on the Community and Economic Development,
Education, Transportation, and Veterans' Affairs and Emergency Preparedness
committees.
